I don't make a habit of featuring other artists on my blog, but couldn't resist posting this.
Dear artist friend Gerhard has had extra family stay at his place for a while. It has meant losing his indoor studio and even the shed is out of the question with furniture winning over easels and paints for room. A broken down van has become his storage space and the boot of his car looks like it has become his new studio. We bumped into Gerhard outside the Cathedral Art Show opening and he showed some of his latest watercolours. For all money it looks like a boot sale! Hope things get back to normal soon Gerhard. The afternoon sun was getting low at the Goolwa railway siding and long shadows were being cast along the tracks. It did get a bit chilly sitting in the shade but well worth it. I have seen this spot a few times and now at last I have painted it.
Railway siding - Goolwa - 30x30cm acrylic on linen board.

Granite Island is joined to the mainland at Victor Harbor in South Australia by a long jetty-like walkway. If you've visited Victor Harbor chances are that you have walked over to the island or caught one of the horse-drawn carriages. Untill about 20 years ago the island was home to a colony of Wallabies.

It was a perfect day for painting and Port Willunga provided the perfect spot!
Lots of people were here enjoying the cooler conditions - walking, fishing, sightseeing and some playing beach cricket!.
One of three works painted in the afternoon.

I had two goes at this painting - you will notice that on the first photo with the title on it that it is different to the one shown in the slide show. This is because that first painting, unknown to me until I had nearly finished the work, was completed on the back of the canvas! I thought when I started to paint that it was a bit absorbent and promised myself to put another coat of gesso on the sheets in future. I really notice when I tried to do some fine lines and they turned out as blobs! Anyway, I really enjoyed the second painting featured in the slide show.
